C17 Globemaster III Joins Indian Airforce

C17 Globemaster is now part of Indian Airforce fleet. Today C17 Globemaster
transport plane inducted in the Indian Air force, which has capability of lifting
tanks, heavy viechles, hundreds of armed soldiers and hellicpters to the border
with China and Pakistan, has made its debut with a test flight at the Hindon base
in Uttar Pradesh. Some defence experts called it a strategic airlifter.
This airlifter plane is capable to carry a load upto 80 tonne. It can land on a
rough surface/semi prepared runway. It requires only 3000 to 3500 feet long
runway to take off which is its main feature. It is one of the worlds advance
planes/airlifters. It replace the Russian IL-76 as the biggest aircraft in the IAF
inventory till now, which has capability of carrying 40 tonne load.
It will also play a vital role in disaster management for rescue and transportation
of essential things etc.
Indian Government sign a deal with US in 2011 for 10 C17 Globemaster
airlifters at a cost of 20 thousand crore rupee. Out of these ten three are
delivered to india and 2 will be delivered with the end of 2013 and the rest
5 in 2014.
C-17 is seen as an important signal from India at a time when China has been
building up its military infrastructure along the disputed border of Line of Actual
Control. It will boost the power of Indian Air force.
